Trans and gender diverse Writing Workshops
“The Queer Writing Workshop with Marcel was so wonderful. I loved the small group we had and how we were able to dive deep on key topics. Marcel broke down thorny topics very clearly and concisely, making it easy for me to understand, and peeling back a layer of mystique about being A Writer.”
Write your own Trans Myth
Myths are living stories. Whether told and retold by the Ancient Greeks or by the Marvel Cinematic Universe, myths shape and expose the culture of their time.
In this 4-week online workshop series, we’ll delve into “mythology” through a trans lens. Asking important questions like:
Were Persephone and Hades T4T?
How did Hermaphroditus impact ancient trans politics?
What does the embodiment of cyclops reveal about the “other”?
With tailored exercises to help sharpen your writing skills, you’ll learn characterization, plotting, dialogue and more. Give and receive feedback and support from a community of TGD writers.
Together, we’ll work from a story pitch all the way to a final draft! Excitingly, this workshop series will culminate in a dedicated New Trans Myths Anthology.
Will you pen the next great trans myth?

About Your Facilitator
Hi, I’m Marcel Liemant (they/them), a transmasc non-binary writer based in Naarm. I write queer fantasy books that center transgender characters. Alongside my own creative work, I’ve founded and taught the Queer Storytelling Workshop (funded by the TGV Community Fund) and co-facilitated the Spilling the T Collective’s Transgender Writers Workshops, which led to a published anthology of gender-diverse writing.
Beyond teaching, I’ve worked as a copywriter, scriptwriter, and international short story judge. I’m currently completing a Masters of Writing and Literature at Deakin University in which my thesis explored the power of fantastical transgender embodiment.
I’m incredibly excited about the Mythmaking Workshops, and I hope to see you there.
What Previous Participants have to say:
“Marcel was an excellent teacher/leader/motivator their knowledge and experience was excellent but never intimidating. They truly let us know that anyone can write and write well. It’s so comforting to know how many Trans storytellers there are and the diversity of stories and perspectives we bring to the world.”
“It was very helpful in regards to its content. As someone who has taken workshops/classes before I found it built on my existing knowledge but could see it works well for people who are just starting out. I mostly really enjoyed the ability to access a community of people who want to write but are also trans, it was very validating and encouraging.”
